Start with scope, not a market average
There is no single fee that describes every Australian SEO engagement. A small service website, a national catalogue and a migration need different work. This guide does not publish commercial prices or invent an industry average. Ask for a quote tied to your website and delivery capacity.
Understand the charging model
A retainer reserves ongoing capacity and prioritisation. A project fee suits defined work such as an audit; hourly consulting may support an internal team. Ask what completion means, what is outside scope and how a change in requirements affects the agreement.
Separate advice from implementation
An audit can identify a broken template without paying for a developer to fix it. Clarify writing, uploads, design, development, digital PR, tools and reporting. Ask whether external costs need your approval and whether GST is included.
Compare the total commitment
Read setup, minimum term, notice, handover and renewal arrangements together. A lower monthly figure with material exclusions may not suit your resources. Use the same brief and request an itemised scope before making a decision.
Put the guidance to work
Browse SEO agency specialisations, compare the same brief with each provider, or request SEO quotes for private administrator review. Listings are not performance guarantees. Sponsored placements are labelled.
